In word 2016 for Mac, the bold style for Adobe fonts (e.g. Adobe Garamond or Adobe Caslon) doesn't work, but the regular and italic versions work as intended. Note that this problem is also present in Mac word 2011, but I can fix it manually by removing the font cache ( /Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Preferences/Office 2011) and restarting the application. Word 2016 doesn't have an explicit font cache. Does anyone know a workaround?
It's super annoying in both display and pdf generation. Thanks in advance! There are on-going problems with third-party fonts, especially ones in PostScript Type 1 and PostScript-flavored OpenType (which is Adobe's preferred format). John Korchok, Production Manager [email protected]. Yodelwithme, thanks for the feedback! As far as the new location for your preferences, you can try looking in the /Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/FontCache folder. To better debug your issue, I have a few questions if you don't mind answering: 1) Is there a specific set of steps you need to do to reproduce this issue (just installing the font and bolding works for me)?

2) When you say Bold doesn't work, do you mean that no bold styling is applied at all, or we use the 'Synthetic' bold? 3) Does this repro on other office apps (PowerPoint, Excel)? Hi Matt, Thanks for your timely reply!
As far as the new location for your preferences, you can try looking in the /Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/FontCache folder. I can find the UBF8. Folder, but there is no subfolder called 'FontCache'. To better debug your issue, I have a few questions if you don't mind answering: 1) Is there a specific set of steps you need to do to reproduce this issue (just installing the font and bolding works for me)? The Adobe Garamond and Caslon fonts were in my system before installing Mac office 2011 or 2016. Maybe they were installed automatically by Adobe Acrobat pro. I think I tried to uninstall and reinstall them, but that didn't fix the issue.
2) When you say Bold doesn't work, do you mean that no bold styling is applied at all, or we use the 'Synthetic' bold? That's exactly the word I'm looking for: ' synthetic bold'! The bold style is applied, but not the actual Adobe Caslon Bold included in the font book. 3) Does this repro on other office apps (PowerPoint, Excel)? Yup, the problem happens in all office apps.
I have tested PowerPoint and Excel, both of which were affected. In fact, the Office font menu always includes the correct, non-synthetic 'bold', but I'm unable to select and apply it to any highlighted text: Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help!
